Learn a little about the psychology advising team who will guide you in your academic pursuits as a declared psychology major!

  Sybil Streeter, Ph.D., Director

Dr. Streeter oversees the administrative aspects of the Advising Office, coordinates the Directed Reading, Undergraduate Teaching Assistance Experience, Directed Research and Honors programs for undergraduate majors, and is a faculty member in the psychology department. She earned a Bachelor of Philosophy, Psychology & Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Streeter has prior experience in private-sector research and consulting using an interdisciplinary approach that draws on such diverse fields as cognitive science, literary analysis, evolutionary and social psychology. In addition to teaching and directing the Advising Office, Dr. Streeter is focused on expanding experiential learning opportunities for psychology majors.

  Jennifer Stapel, M.Ed., Associate Director

Jennifer earned her M.Ed. in Administration and Policy Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and her B.A. in History and Sociology. Jennifer has 25+ years of experience in higher education. Prior to joining the Psychology Department, Jennifer worked in the University of Pittsburgh Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Advising Center which serves first-year students and all undecided undergraduates. As Associate Director of Psychology Undergraduate Advising, Jennifer supervises the advising staff and student workers, assists the director with administrative aspects of the office, maintains the supervised field placement opportunity, and meets with students to explore undergraduate opportunities and career paths.  

  Beth Barthen Braunsdorf, M.A., Advisor

Beth earned her M.A. in Higher Education Administration from The George Washington University and her B.A. in English from Allegheny College. Prior to joining the Psychology Advising Office, she worked in both undergraduate and graduate admissions as well as graduate student services within the University of Pittsburgh and in the state of Virginia. Beth has twenty-five years' experience in student affairs working one-on-one with students helping them explore and plan their academic pathways and post-graduate careers through coursework, research, and a variety of experiential learning opportunities. 

  Amy Bittner, M.A., Advisor

Amy earned her M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University, and her B.S. in Business Administration from Duquesne University. Before joining the Psychology Advising Office, she worked in academic coaching and advising, experiential learning, career development, and residence life at public and private universities. Amy has more than twenty-one years’ experience in student affairs working to support and educate students through personalized academic planning, goal setting and career exploration. 

  Melanie McColey, M.Ed., Advisor

Melanie earned her Master of Education in School Counseling from William & Mary and her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. She has nearly a decade of experience in higher education. Prior to joining the Psychology Advising Office as a full-time advisor, she advised first-year and undeclared students in the University of Pittsburgh Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Advising Center. She also worked as an administrator in Pitt’s Office of Student Records and the UCLA School of Law Office of the Registrar. Melanie integrates her background in counseling, administration, and advising to provide a holistic advising experience for psychology majors. 

 Dalontai Pond, M.A. Advisor

Dalontai earned his M.A. in College Counseling with a focus in student affairs from Edinboro University and his B.A. in Developmental Psychology from Edinboro University. Prior to joining the Psychology Advising Office, he worked in Residence Life as a Resident Director at the University of Pittsburgh and as a promise coach with the Pittsburgh Promise working with 9-12 grade students creating post high school plan.
