Class of 2024 Reception

The Psychology Department will host a celebratory reception for candidates. This is not a formal graduation ceremony, but a reception with food and music where you and your family can celebrate with faculty and other students. Invitations and updates were sent to your Pitt email.

Who: December 2023 graduates, April 2024 candidates and August 2024 candidates are invited to attend
When: Friday, April 26th 5:00-7:00pm
Where: Posvar Hall Patio (behind Posvar Hall along Roberto and Vera Clemente Dr)

Invitations to the department event were sent to the the Pitt email address of all psychology majors who have applied. The invitation was sent from Psychology Department University of Pittsburgh greenvelope@invites.greenvelope.com with subject line "Psychology Class of 2024 Celebration".

The University will host an undergraduate commencement ceremony on Sunday, April 28th. This is a traditional cap-and-gown ceremony with names announced as students walk across stage. Information can be found here: https://www.commencement.pitt.edu. Please email commencement@pitt.edu for more information.

Graduation: Graduation is an academic matter and requires completion of at least 120 total credits, all general education requirements, and all major requirements. 

Celebrations: Graduation celebrations are voluntary. Your participation does not confirm or fulfill the academic criteria needed to officially graduate. 

Update February 2, 2024:

Summer term graduates who would like to request to walk early and attend the Spring Commencement Ceremony are eligible to put their name on a Spring Commencement Waitlist. The Spring Commencement Waitlist link is located under the “Eligibility” page on the Commencement website (www.commencement.pitt.edu), and will open on Wednesday, March 6th at 10:00am. The Waitlist is on a first come, first serve basis. The Waitlist will close on Wednesday, April 10 at 6pm. 

Summer 2024 term students will be notified via their Pitt email the week of April 15th by the Office of Special Events regarding their waitlist request:

For those we can accommodate, an email will be sent confirming your participation along with instructions on how to obtain their tickets and name announcement cards.
For all others, an email will be sent stating we were unable to accommodate your request and you will be invited to the Winter Ceremony.

If you wish to continue to participate in the 2024 Winter Commencement Ceremony, no further action is required at this time.

 

Latin Honors Cords

Latin honors cords distribution will occur at Graduation Central on both April 11 & April 12 in the Schenley Quadrangle. Each school will be assigned a table with cords for distribution. Please refer to the map to assist in finding your school's location. Latin honors refer to those students graduating Summa Cum Laude 3.75, Magna Cum Laude 3.50, and Cum Laude 3.25. Should you have questions about eligibility, please contact the Office of Student Records.

Departmental Honors Cords

Psychology majors who are enrolled in PSY 1975 Honors Thesis will receive departmental honors cords in their honors seminar class.
