Current Hot Metal Bridge Fellows

Hateya is from Charlotte, NC and recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in psychology. Her research interests include the academic and social development of children, with a particular interest in parent-child interactions. She will be working with Dr. Heather Bachman in the Parents Promoting Early Learning Lab and is excited to participate in the HMB Program.

Maraya Clark is from Hamden, CT and recently graduated from the University of Connecticut Storrs Campus with a B.A. in Psychology and English and a minor in French. She is committed to pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and is interested in working with children and families, especially those of color and those whose lives are impacted by having sickle cell disease. While in the Hot Metal Bridge Program, she will be working with Dr. Judith Morgan researching developmental mechanisms of risk for affective disorders in young children. Maraya is eager to learn how a maternal history of depression can impact the mental health of children. She is thankful to also have the opportunity to be co-mentored by Dr. Jennifer Silk and take part in the Families, Emotions, Neuroscience, and Development (FEND) Lab. 

Juan Carlos is from Caracas, Venezuela, he graduated from Waynesburg University with a B.S. in Mathematics and later worked testing and developing software. He is interested in cognitive psychology and the use of mathematics and computer science for its study. Juan Carlos will be working with Dr. Marc Coutanche in the​Learning in Neural Systems (LeNS) lab.

Steven Harris is from the Seattle, Washington area and recently graduated from Chaminade University of Honolulu with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. His previous research examined the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on undergraduate behavioral health and well-being. He is particularly interested in how the mind and brain change with age and the factors that promote cognition and successful aging. During his time in the Hot Metal Bridge program, he will be working with Dr. Kirk Erickson in the Brain Aging and Cognitive Health Lab.
