Childhood Experiences and Adult Sleep

Description of Research:

Directed research students are needed for a study focusing on how childhood experiences may impact sleep in adults. This hands-on experience will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to conduct psychophysiological stress tasks in a laboratory setting and how to collect data from daily self-report and behavioral (i.e., actigraphy) measures of sleep.

Duties of Students:

  • Preparation of study materials
  • Assist with recruitment-related tasks
  • Assist with data collection
  • Assist with data entry, management, and/or analysis
  • Attend lab meetings to discuss study progress and to learn about childhood adversity and sleep research more generally  
  • Complete a project consistent with the guidelines of PSY 1903
  • Other responsibilities consistent with background and training

Requirements:

Students must complete the following prerequisites before the start of PSY 1903*:

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • 12 credits of Psychology (including current term)
  • STAT 0200/1000/1100- Statistics
  • PSY 0035- Research Methods in Psychology

Additional Requirements:
Students must complete the following prerequisites before the start of PSY 1903:

  • Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and meet all other departmental requirements.
  • A 10-hour/week commitment is required for the fall semester; opportunities for continuing into the spring term will be discussed at a later date.
  • Must possess excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly responsible and dependable individual
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work as part of a team
